Riddle:
General Gasslefield, accused of high treason, is sentenced to death by court-martial. He is allowed to make a final statement, after which he will be shot if the statement is false or will be hung if the statement is true. Gasslefield makes his final statement and is released.
The Question: What could he have said?
Answer: General Gasslefield said: "I will be shot." If this statement was true, he would have been hung and thus not be shot. But then his statement would be false, which implies that he should be shot, making the statement true again, etc... In other words: the verdict of the court-martial could not be executed and the general was released.
Riddle:
George and his wife were found dead in a building, the detective on arrival found a bullet covered in blood in the room where the crime had been committed. The detective in charge of the case ordered his assistant to ask the maid, the security man, and the cook some questions that might help fish out the culprit. The assistant asked the maid where she was on the day this couple was killed, the maid replied that she wasn't around when the incident happened. She continued that she went to get groceries from the shop next door. The police asked the security man that why hadn't he heard any gunshot, the security man replied that he slept off as he was tired that day so he hadn't heard the gunshot. The assistant asked the cook what had happened on that day and she replied that she was cooking breakfast when she heard a noise in the couple's room. She continued that by the time she got to the room she saw the couples covered in their own pool of blood and she had immediately called the police nearby for help. The detective immediately knew who the culprit was. How did he know?
Answer: The assistant was the culprit because the detective never told his assistant anything about a bullet. How did the assistant know that a gun was used to kill the COUPLES? He was only ordered to ask the maid, security man, and cook any questions that might help figure out who did it.
Riddle:
The Mills family had traveled to their vacation cabin which was next to a large, beautiful lake in the mountains. Mr. and Mrs. Mills and their three children, Brock (age 6), Cindy (age 7), and Susan (age 8) had come to the lake to relax for the weekend. They were all looking forward to taking a long, relaxing swim in the lake, and to try out the brand new boat Mr. Mills had just purchased for some family fun. As they were swimming near the middle of the lake, it dawned on Mr. Mills that their son Brock was not in the water with them. Suddenly, with no warning, the family heard motor sounds and saw their newly-purchased boat speeding directly toward them, accompanied by the maniacal laughter of their missing child, Brock. Again and again, Brock drove the boat directly at his vulnerable family, laughing insanely each time it passed near them. "I told Brock not to go near that boat unless I was with him," shouted Mr. Mills, "and now he's trying to kill us with it!" However, Mrs. Mills nonchalantly responded, "Oh, boys will be boys." Considering the circumstances, why was Mrs. Mills so cavalier concerning her son's disobedient and reckless behavior, and why did she seem unconcerned about her six-year-old driving a boat without supervision?
Answer: Mr. Mills had bought the family a new remote controlled boat, but bad boy Brock decided to ignore his father’s instructions, and sent the two-foot long boat on its maiden voyage as a mischievous prank on his family. I don’t envy Brock when his father reaches shore.
