My Son

Riddle: A man and his son are driving on the interstate when they get into a car accident. Both need to be taken to the hospital. The hospitals are overcrowded so the man and his son are sent to different hospitals. The son needs surgery and but when he gets their the surgeon says, "I can't operate on this boy, he's my son." How is this possible?
Answer: The surgeon is his mother.
